The One Life Series is not an abstract association, but a body of ink works in which fingerprints are the direct and explicit visual subject. Every form in the composition is a clearly defined fingerprint—layered, rotating, and endlessly returning, without a beginning or an end.

In He Jun’s conception, fingerprints are not merely biological identifiers. They function as a metaphor for life itself. This is precisely why the series is titled One Life rather than Fingerprint.
In his view, a human life resembles a fingerprint—a continuous circular movement that unfolds through time, yet always revolves around its inner core.

From birth onward, an individual accumulates experience, change, and memory. Although life appears to move forward, it constantly circles inward. The end is not a termination, but a return—to the origin of consciousness and being—just as a fingerprint ultimately curves back toward itself.

This perspective resonates deeply with the concept of reincarnation found in traditional Chinese philosophy and spiritual thought. Life is not linear, but cyclical. Departure does not signify disappearance, but a return to the spiritual point of origin.

In this work, He Jun avoids narrative depiction and symbolic storytelling. Instead, through the restrained language of ink, he reduces life to a continuous structure and rhythm—quiet, gradual, and irreversible.

The One Life Series is not about a single individual.
It speaks to a condition shared by all life.

HE JUN

Made with care and unconditionally loved by our customers, this signature bestseller exceeds all expectations. He Jun (b. 1971) is an independent contemporary ink artist whose work operates within a distinctly international visual language.
Through sustained observation of society and philosophical reflection, he has developed a rare approach that combines global contemporary thinking with the discipline of ink painting.

Working with extreme restraint, He Jun demonstrates exceptional control over space, rhythm, and minimal gesture—where meaning emerges through absence rather than excess.
Such mastery of ink, especially within sparse compositions, requires decades of continuous practice and refinement, making his artistic language both highly demanding and increasingly rare in contemporary art.

He Jun is a member of the National Watercolor Society (U.S.).
