Traditional Chinese Bird-and-Flower Ink Artist

Yang Kequn is a Chinese artist whose practice centers on traditional bird-and-flower ink painting, combined with a contemporary visual sensibility and personal expression.

Her artistic lineage traces back to one of the most influential traditions in modern Chinese painting. Through the teaching lineage of Master Li Shubao, her artistic roots connect to Qi Baishi and Li Kuchan, two major figures in the history of Chinese expressive ink painting.

In her work, Yang Kequn focuses on the rhythm of brushwork, the balance of negative space, and the spiritual atmosphere that defines traditional Eastern painting. Her paintings preserve the cultural foundation of classical Chinese bird-and-flower art while presenting a visual language suited to contemporary interiors and international audiences.

Alongside traditional ink techniques, she also incorporates color pigments and gold elements into selected works, creating compositions that feel both refined and visually layered.

Her works explore nature, vitality, and the relationship between human emotion and the natural world, conveying a sense of calmness, freedom, and Eastern aesthetics through the language of ink painting.
