This piece is created using traditional Yunjin (Yun Brocade) weaving and embroidery techniques, one of China’s most prestigious and historically significant textile arts.

Originating in Nanjing over 1,600 years ago, Yunjin is regarded as the foremost of China’s three great brocades and has long been associated with imperial use. For centuries, it was reserved for royal garments, ceremonial textiles, and court decoration due to its complexity and refinement.

Often described as “gold woven into silk,” Yunjin is known for its intricate jacquard structures, multi-layered warp and weft construction, and the integration of silk with metallic gold threads. The name “Yunjin,” meaning “cloud brocade,” reflects its luminous, cloud-like surface that shifts subtly under changing light.

Unlike printed fabric, this artwork is woven and embroidered. The surface features raised, dimensional detailing created through layered silk threads and metallic accents, resulting in a subtle relief effect that gives the horses depth and tactile presence.
