The “New Species” series is one of He Jun’s most distinctive bodies of work in recent years.
Blending restrained ink techniques with the organic flow of tea washes, He Jun constructs imagined life forms—creatures that feel both familiar and otherworldly.

The artist uses brewed tea instead of plain water to mix with the ink. This allows the natural tannins in the tea to react with the Xuan paper, creating a warm, earthy depth and organic textures that cannot be achieved with synthetic pigments.

A conversation starter for any sophisticated space, this piece explores the boundary between the known and the imagined.

He Jun (b. 1971) is an independent contemporary ink artist whose work operates within a distinctly international visual language.
