This work belongs to Zhang Yongjiu’s The Nebula of Imagination series and represents his ongoing exploration of the universe as an inner, psychological landscape rather than a scientific subject.

Inspired by the Horsehead Nebula, the painting does not aim for astronomical accuracy. Instead, layered colors, drifting light points, and fluid spatial structures evoke a dreamlike state in constant formation. The cosmos here is no longer a distant object, but a mental space where emotion, memory, and imagination converge.

The figure on the right appears immersed in the vastness of the universe, playing a bowed instrument. Music functions as a metaphor—not as sound, but as an inner rhythm that bridges reality and imagination. Nebulae, stars, and flowing color fields form an intuitive, non-rational order, inviting the viewer into a more intimate and emotional mode of perception.

Reflecting the artist’s recent shift from realism toward inner experience, this work does not seek to narrate a fixed story. Instead, it captures a psychological moment—an ephemeral state of solitude, contemplation, fantasy, and spiritual drift.

In Zhang Yongjiu’s artistic language, the universe is not a grand scientific concept, but a mirror reflecting the inner self.

ZHANG YONGJIU

Made with care and unconditionally loved by our customers, this signature bestseller exceeds all expectations.Zhang Yongjiu (b. 1954) is a contemporary painter and writer whose artistic practice moves from realism toward dreams, memory, and inner vision.
With decades of experience as a published author and a member of the China Writers Association, his paintings are shaped by a deep literary sensibility, emphasizing metaphor, psychological space, and intellectual reflection.

Zhang began painting later in life, bringing to the medium a rare clarity of purpose and independence from academic convention.
Rather than depicting the external world, his recent works—primarily in acrylic and oil—explore inner experience, where fragments of dreams, emotion, and memory surface with quiet intensity.

For Zhang Yongjiu, painting is not a display of technique, but a form of inner writing—an honest and reflective process that gives visual form to what is felt, remembered, and imagined.
