Golden Autumn depicts an autumn scene in Beijing, inspired by the area surrounding Shichahai. Golden foliage dominates the composition, while architectural elements derived from Beijing’s historic Drum Tower along the city’s central axis subtly emerge in the background, creating a quiet dialogue between nature and urban memory.

This work is created using traditional Chinese ink and color painting techniques, executed with a brush on handmade Xuan paper. In addition to ink, the artist employs traditional Chinese pigments, applied through controlled washes and layered brushwork. Through careful control of brush pressure, ink density, pigment dilution, and water absorption, both ink and color seep naturally into the paper’s fiber structure, producing rich textures and a measured visual rhythm.

The tree trunks are rendered with calligraphic brushstrokes, while broader areas of color are built through repeated translucent washes, allowing the atmosphere of autumn to unfold gradually across the surface. The luminous yellow tones are achieved through traditional brush-applied pigments rather than post-processing or printing, giving the work a material depth unique to Chinese painting.

Chinese ink painting is a painting tradition unique to China, developed over thousands of years and centered on the use of brush, ink, pigments, and handmade paper. Unlike Western painting, which often emphasizes volume and linear perspective, Chinese painting values the expressive quality of brushwork, the balance between form and empty space, and the conveyance of inner spirit. Golden Autumn is not a literal transcription of a single viewpoint, but a contemporary interpretation of Beijing’s autumn landscape through the enduring visual language of Chinese ink and color painting.

SONG XIPING

Made with care and unconditionally loved by our customers, this signature bestseller exceeds all expectations.Song Xiping is a contemporary artist working within the expanded language of ink and traditional painting materials.
Her practice focuses on the relationship between material behavior, spatial structure, and visual order, approaching painting as a system rather than a narrative device.

Working primarily on Xuan paper, Song consciously incorporates the natural diffusion and absorbency of the material into her compositions.
Through horizontal spatial arrangements, layered color fields, and repetitive gestures, her works occupy a subtle territory between abstraction and landscape, shaped by rhythm, accumulation, and restraint.

Song Xiping is a member of the China Artists Association and holds the title of National First-Class Artist (China).
