In 2022, Liu Xiaoning accepted a private invitation from Botswana’s former President, Mokgweetsi Masisi, and traveled with a group of friends to visit this beautiful inland African country. Botswana is known worldwide for its vast grasslands and brilliant diamonds. Diamonds not only form the foundation of the nation’s economy, but also quietly shape the lives and spirit of its people.

During the visit, Liu Xiaoning was deeply moved by the wide skies, peaceful villages, and the warmth of the local people. One relaxed afternoon, he created a painting—as if capturing and condensing the feelings, colors, and emotions of the entire journey into a single work.

At the dinner, his friend personally presented the painting to former President Mokgweetsi Masisi. In that moment, there was no official stiffness—only sincere exchange and appreciation. The President looked at the artwork, smiled, and shared with Liu and his team his love for this land.

Liu Xiaoning later often said, “The people of Botswana have hearts like the diamonds beneath their feet—pure, genuine, and transparent.” This visit not only brought him an unforgettable friendship, but also gave his work a warm response within a broader cultural context.
